Israel All Alone: Where is the United States, or Anyone Else?

Israel is under attack. On the one hand, Hamas is raining rockets onto the country, intent on fulfilling its mission of wiping Israel off the map. On the other hand, the United Nations is intent on obliterating Israel’s voice against terrorism and attacks. Meanwhile, proper, upstanding, righteous countries (yeah, right) around the planet are attempting to castigate Israel for defending itself. Meanwhile, Hamas continues to use hospitals, schools, and mosques to hide and launch rockets, mortars, and build and attack through tunnels into Israel. But Israel is the bad guy.

Israel is a country that has a right to survive. Israel has a right to defend its borders and its people. Benjamin Netanyahu deserves the world’s support against these terrorists. Hamas is killing its own people, the Palestinians, who protest against Hamas use of civilian buildings to hide weapons and rockets. The world is turning a blind eye to the atrocities being committed by Hamas, focusing on the nearly 2000 civilian deaths from the Israeli bombing, deaths that would not have happened if Hamas had not put these people in harm’s way. Not since the days of Yasser Arafat has such an organization been so blatant in its desire to inflict harm on its own people in attacking Israel. And yet, the UN, a consortium of nations that is supposed to help quell issues like this, will not raise one hand, not even a finger, to stop Hamas. Qatar, one of the richest nations in the region, actually funds Hamas’ continuing terror tactics, under the guise of tithing to Hamas’ “humanitarian” efforts. If Qatar was truly interested in supporting such efforts, it should give the funds to the Red Crescent, or to the Gaza government directly, with stipulations that the funds are managed under a joint UN/Israeli/Gaza government oversight committee. Not going to happen. Qatar and Turkey, along with Iran, get to kill people without having to get blood on their hands, or so they think.

Islam, as a religion, would be a good religion, if it truly were one of peace. However, radicals are using the religion as a means to kill, torture, rape, murder, and subjugate people. That this is happening on a scale that would make Hitler proud is truly disturbing. That a group is dedicated, not to the overthrow of a government, but to the total annihilation of a people, is appalling. That the United Nations, founded on the ideal that the Holocaust can’t happen again, yet is turning its back on Israel, speaks volumes. And that liberals and progressives, who profess their love for their fellow man or woman, would condemn Israel for protecting itself, while attempting to elevate Hamas to the level of martyr, is truly disgusting, appalling, and disturbing. Hamas, ISIS, Al Qaeda, Taliban, all are synonymous with terrorist dehumanizing behavior. At one time, the world was dedicated to stamping out these blights on human life. Now, these same organizations are held as shining examples to young Arabic children, while hiding the killing and torturing these diseased terrorists perform. And the feminists that attack men anywhere else in the world, are strangely silent on the behavior of Islamic men to Islamic women. The silence is deafening from N.O.W., and any other feminist movement. The Arabic sheiks have lions, leopards, cheetahs, hawks, falcons, horses, dogs, which they all treat with whatever abandon they wish, yet I have yet to hear of one, yes, ONE, demonstration by PETA or GreenPeace against the sheiks of the middle east. However, let SeaWorld help one sealion, and the screams are heard around the world about abuse of animals.

The above is why I have no patience for those who would defend Hamas. Hamas is no different from ISIS. When there was a demonstration against Hamas’ use of civilian structures for protecting weapons and Hamas’ command centers, fifty, yes, 50 of the demonstrators were executed, for “Crimes Against Palestine”. Not much different from ISIS beheading Christians in Mosul for being Christian.

I stand beside Israel. Israel has a right to defend itself against anyone who would encroach upon its sovereignty. Israel has a right to defend its people against those who would attack them, either through rocket fire or through sneak attacks from tunnels. And Israel has a right to enter areas where those attacks are coming from, to root out those who would do Israel and its people harm, and to kill or capture them. If the people of the Gaza Strip are willing to allow Hamas free use of their structures to hide in, the ONLY people they can blame, for any atrocities or attacks on women and children, are themselves. If they don’t wish to stand up to Hamas, they will receive the treatment they deserve, whether by anti-rocket fire and shelling to remove the origin of the attacks, or by being held in thrall to Hamas, and their way of life. For, if the people of the Gaza Strip do not do something about Hamas, they will soon be living like the people under the Taliban: No singing, no dancing, the women held as a third-rate citizen, subject to their husbands’ or families’ wishes, and soccer stadiums used for mass executions. It’s already happening in Iraq.

Why Do We Need The United Nations? Part Two

Air Algerie, democracies, French, Gaza Strip, Hamas, Israel, Middle East, Red Cross, Ukraine, UN, United Nations, United States, US

Amazing!  The Air Algerie plane that crashed in Mali resulted in the United Nations sending troops immediately to secure the area.  French fighter jets swept across the crash site to inspect the disaster.  UN Peacekeepers will be on the ground making sure that the (mainly French) bodies are given respectful care, and that no one does anything to the crash site.  Meanwhile, in the Ukraine, no one from the UN has shown  the slightest bit of interest in securing the area, even though it’s been nearly two weeks since this disaster.  Rebel soldiers still impede the few international observers and searchers from the Red Cross, Malaysia, and the OSC-E.  Reporters typically outnumber the searchers and recovery experts, trampling on areas that have to be inspected.  Meanwhile, in the Middle East, Hamas continues to use UN built schools and hospitals to hide their rockets and mortars and other war-making paraphernalia in.  And then, the UN is stunned when the Israelis earmark these sites for destruction.  In Iraq, ISIS is slowly working its way down south, to wreak havoc on the people and military which Obama decided to leave without the necessary training.  In Mosul, Christians are told to either convert to Islam, pay a tax, or be executed.  Explosives are detonated in markets in all of Iraq’s cities, targeting the civilian populace.  What does it take to get a UN Peacekeeping mission moving?

The United Nations was founded in 1947 to establish a world-wide network of nations dedicated to promoting peace and harmony throughout the planet.  After the horrors of World War II, most people were tired of war, and fearful of nuclear disasters.  The charter for the UN was drafted and signed to put an end to such disturbing situations.  The major problem with the UN, however, was not its lofty ideals.  The problem was the mechanism for implementing security measures.  The UN abdicated responsibility for securing peace around the world by setting up the UN Security Council in such a way as to prevent the use of its military (let’s call a spade a shovel here) force from enforcing its decrees.  The UN, unlike NATO, prevents itself from entering into places with military assets by a simple veto of any permanent member of the Security Council.  So, if China sends expeditionary forces to seize islands in the South China Sea, the UN has to put forth a resolution to send forces to support the islands against such an invasion, and China simply vetoes it.  Nothing can happen.  This is why there are no troops securing the area in the Ukraine.  The UN would have to put forth a resolution to move troops into the Ukraine, and Russia would just veto it.  The UN could put forth a measure to send troops into the Gaza Strip to demilitarize it (remove heavy weapons from Hamas), but Russia, China, or France would veto it.  It would be the same for Iraq and Syria.  So, how did the UN get forces to move in Mali? Interestingly enough, there were already troops in the area as part of an ongoing peacekeeping mission.  The French then requested support, and, voila’, there they were.  Amazing, isn’t it, how that works?

The UN’s role is supposed to be to provide humanitarian relief, support for nations, training, and security.  However, due to the Machiavellian maneuverings of the bureaucrats and “diplomats” assigned to the UN, the UN’s primary role is to suck up cash from the donating countries, impede progress through the use of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) primarily made up of fuzzy-headed do-gooders who do more damage than good, as well as family members of the bureaucrats and  “diplomats” assigned to the UN, and stop progress in places where people who originally did at least subsistence level farming, now rely on handouts from various UN or UN-sponsored NGOs.  The UN has not lived up to any of its charter’s goals.  The UN had nothing to do with the collapse of the Berlin Wall or the end of the Cold War.  The UN had nothing to do with the cessation of violence that plagued the Balkans in the 90s after the end of the Cold War.  The UN has done nothing to stem the tide of terror flowing through the Middle East or Africa, except where its primary benefactors have an interest.

The United States, as well as Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Germany, Israel, all like-minded nations, who are interested in real security in this world, should all pull out of the United Nations.  The US should evict the UN from its building sitting in New York, reclaiming that space for better use.  All UN delegates, their families, and their “servants” should be evicted from the US, and sent to Geneva, the other UN site, to allow the UN bureaucrats to leave in peace, and give the Swiss something to worry about.  Then, all the like-minded nations should form a new coalition, dedicated to true humanitarian aid, with true force backed up.  Since most of the security forces generally come from the nations that are listed, it shouldn’t be a problem to get a ready-action force built to quell the hot spots on the planet.  The overriding mandate would be to provide security for those who cannot get it from terrorists, humanitarian aid for disasters, natural and man-made, support for training the indigent population instead of making the indigent population welfare basket-cases, and aid for fledgling nations, and even fully-developed nations, to continue to build and support themselves.

There isn’t a need for a league of nations that cannot, or will not, provide support for the peoples of the world.  This is a crime against humanity, and humanity are the ones paying the price.

Israel’s Right to Live in Peace

adults, atrocities, children, Gaza Strip, Hamas, Israel, Israeli, Middle East, Palestine, Palestinians, peace, terrorists

For the past week, the eyes of the world have been on the Middle East. The brief respite offered by the catastrophe of the civilian jet shot down over the Ukraine did not divert the world’s interest. Israel is in a fight for its right to be a free and sovereign country. The Palestinians say they want a free and sovereign country. But the efforts of Hamas to destroy the peace and security of Israel points to the larger problem: Unless the Palestinians denounce the atrocities committed by Hamas, the Middle East will continue to be a hot spot for terrorism, and Israel will not have peace.

Many people moan about the deaths of the Palestinian people, bemoaning Israel’s attacks on civilian population areas. Yet, I hear no bemoaning, no beseeching, no cries of horror by the Palestinian people or the main stream media about Hamas using civilian populace areas, civilian schools, and civilian medical facilities to launch their rockets against Israel. This makes the Palestinian people the biggest hypocrites on the planet, next to Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama. If you allow a military asset to be used from your area of responsibility (AOR), your AOR is no longer a protected site. You have forfeited any protection for you and any other civilians in the area. The Geneva Convention specifically prohibits such use, and removes protection from those places under the International Laws of Armed Conflict. What was once a medical facility for all, becomes a legitimate target if you allow rockets and mortars to be launched from your facility. What was once a civilian residential district, where children played and families live, becomes a legitimate strike object when you allow murderous terrorists to stockpile weapons and war-making material in the basements and inside apartments. At such a time, you must expect counterstrikes against the war-making capabilities of those you harbor in your facilities.

The world blames Israel for the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians. The world, as usual, is wrong. Once a people submit to having their holy institutions, their medical facilities, and their homes, to be places of maintaining war-making material, those people, and, yes, unfortunately, their children, are no longer innocent bystanders. The adults have, themselves, place their families, their livelihoods, and their homes in harm’s way by their actions. The responsibility falls on the Palestinians, not the Israelis, for the deaths. In war, those who would wage war, and permit the war-makers asylum, are directly responsible for any actions that may befall them. To lay blame on others is disingenuous, and disgusting.

If the Palestinians wish to have peace, to stop the deaths of their young people, their children, and their families, and wish to stop the destruction of their property, they need do only one thing. They need to stand up to Hamas and say, Enough! No More! We sacrifice no more of our lives, our families, for your misbegotten war. By denouncing and running the terrorists, the Palestinians can take the first step to peace. It would not be easy. The right thing never is. But, that is the right thing, and the Palestinians know this.
